Joanna Makris

Communication Senior Analyst & Managing Director

Joanna has been affiliated with the technology industry for over 12 years, as a journalist, industry analyst, consultant and sell-side research analyst. Her research effort spans both enterprise and service provider networks, with a focus on emerging and disruptive technologies in wireless and wireline broadband access, service delivery, and data networking sectors. Using a combination of fundamental research and market diligence, Joanna works to identify technology trends early and has developed specialized investment themes within her sector, including next-generation wireless and application delivery.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bucknell University and a M.A. in English Literature from Columbia University, Joanna began her career in the telecommunications industry in 1997 as a journalist at Data Communications magazine, a McGraw Hill publication. From 1998-2000, she served as a consultant and senior analyst covering telecommunications services at the Yankee Group, a Boston-based consultancy.

In 2000, Joanna joined Adams Harkness as an analyst covering Communications Technology equipment stocks and later served as a Director. Joanna has received several awards from Starmine including in 2009, for stock picking and earnings estimate accuracy, and was named #1 stock picker in the Comm sector in 2006 with over a 29% annual return. Her coverage has included names such as Juniper Networks, ADTRAN, F5, Blue Coat Systems, Ixia, Powerwave, Commscope, Starent, Aruba, and Acme Packet. Most recently Joanna served as a SVP at Brean Murray, Carret & Co. from 2007-2008.
