After receiving his BA in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1984, Steve went on to graduate school at UW-Madison, receiving an MBA in Finance and Investments in 1985. While in graduate school Steve was part of the prestigious Applied Securities Analysis program. After graduate school Steve went to Adams, Harkness and Hill, where he was an analyst in the New England Research product covering the semiconductor equipment, consumer and software names. Steve was later named Director of Research and spearheaded the merger of the firm’s 100 Emerging Growth and New England Research Products. Steve’s coverage migrated to the Internet, including early coverage of Internet incubators such as CMGI and Safeguard Scientifics as well as software companies such as Broadvision, Vignette and Interwoven. Steve was named a Wall Street Journal All-Star in 2000 as the #1 Internet analyst and #2 in overall stock picking. His coverage then migrated to Digital Media where he helped pioneer the space on the Street through the involvement in several high profile IPOs including Dolby Laboratories. Steve was named the #1 stock picker in the software space by Starmine in 2006. With the merger of Adams Harkness and Canaccord Capital, Steve continued to follow the Digital Media space and served as the firm’s global sector leader for the technology space. Steve has a proven ability to combine big picture thoughts with bottoms up fundamental research and stock picking. |
